How Much Does Embryo Donation Cost in Turkey?

Embryo donation in Turkey typically costs from $5,500 to $9,000. Total expenses depend on the clinical protocol, medication requirements, and whether the transfer involves frozen embryos. In the US, patients typically pay $18,000 for similar fertility treatments. Turkey offers a country-to-country savings of approximately 59%. Standard fertility assistance generally includes initial consultations, hormone monitoring, and the transfer procedure itself.

  • Legal framework: Turkish law strictly permits only autologous IVF using a married couple's own genetic material.
  • Medication costs: Expect to add 15-20% to the base price for necessary hormonal support drugs.
  • Geographic hubs: Istanbul remains the primary destination, though some patients explore clinics in Ankara or Izmir.
  • Alternative regions: Many clinics facilitate legal donation programs in nearby jurisdictions like Northern Cyprus or Spain.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Patients benefit from high-level expertise in Istanbul even for standard IVF. Professor Oya Gökmen at Medistate Hospital pioneered quality standards as a former national society president. Clinics like Emsey Hospital hold Temos International and JCI accreditations, ensuring 5-star patient care. Choosing an Associate Professor with international training, like Elif Esra Uyar, provides access to advanced reproductive immunology at competitive rates.

The surgeon and the entire team at the clinic were great, which put me at ease
My biggest worry was centered on one of the 2-3 fibroids I had. The surgeon and the entire team at the clinic were great, which put me at ease. The procedure itself was smooth. I am now in the early recovery phase and I feel good, though I do tire easily, as is expected. It’s still too early to know what the final results will be, but I am optimistic. I can’t really comment on the price clarity as I wasn't sure about the details. From a medical and care standpoint, everything was handled very professionally by the staff.
The doctor was patient and heard all my needs. He couldnot have done more. Bookmed helped me get the best options. The process was so smooth
Maybe, letting customer know there will be additional cost other than the ones quotated. We paid for so many tests not covered.

Everything was flawless
If you’re considering stem cell rejuvenation, you should be aware that the hardest part comes after the procedure. For me, the biggest challenge was definitely waiting for the results. The procedure itself, which involved using stem cells from my blood plasma, was straightforward. Physically, I actually feel much the same as before, which is probably normal in the early stages of recovery. The surgeon and the entire staff were consistently professional and supportive, so I give full marks for the care and the clinic. Everything was flawless. You just have to be aware that patience is required. I would recommend the clinic.
The treatment went smoothly. The town is lovely for sightseeing afterwards, too.
The clinic’s coordinator isn’t always available, which was sometimes frustrating. It makes you feel insecure. I was scared at first (new city, I didn’t know anyone and I didn’t speak the language either). The Bookimed staff member was always available and replied straight away. She was reliable, which made my stay much easier in the end. Not all the hotels are good. I recommend the Hyatt hotel (it’s expensive, though) and 216 Castel (cheap and in a lovely area). Be careful with taxi drivers in the city. You end up paying more than the journey actually cost.

hopefully we will succeed very much believe in Dr Semre 🙏
To be honest, we found the clinic by searching for the top 10 hospitals in Turkey and chose Memorial, the call centre was very adequate, we were met at the airport by a special clinic transfer car, which was very convenient for us! Then we had a consultation with doctor Semre Kahraman, she explained us the next steps of our operation (IVF) in a very clear language. We are planning to have the operation at the end of November hopefully we will succeed very much believe in Dr Semre 🙏, I forgot to mention the consultation was free which surprised me very pleasantly 😳 as last year I was in Medipole there I paid 220$ for the consultation.
I liked Dr Semre the best.

She was on call 24/7, always answered in detail, politely and with great patience
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my coordinating doctor Yaroslava from the platform. She was on call 24/7, always answered in detail, politely and with great patience. Yaroslava even enquired about my impressions after my consultation with the doctor, which was very pleasant. Her responsiveness and support helped me to make an important decision. As for the treatment and the doctor, it is too early to give a final assessment, as we are just starting to work. But I can already say that I chose Memorial Ataşehir Clinic and I was satisfied with the staff, the doctor, the interpreter and the clinic itself. I will definitely write a full review of the results later.
A reverent approach of the doctor, no rush, polite, smiling. And my doctor coordinator Yaroslava.

May the peace and mercy of God be with you. As a great program, the people who use it are great. The answer is excellent, but the last time was through MC Hospital Türkiye. The translator is a man named Issa. It is very weak in translation and does not translate. Why is this from the words of the doctor? Because the doctor spoke for a long time, and the translation was short, so there was a lot of things. It does not translate for me, and it did not benefit me at all, and the examination didn't help, doctor

Yes, I liked it overall. But I didn’t like how translators work - there are not enough Russian-speaking translators, you have to wait for them all the time, once I waited 1.5 hours, once without an interpreter I mixed up the medication, I didn’t take the medicine correctly, because I didn’t understand correctly, even if the translator comes to you, will be in a hurry, because they have a lot of work. The clinic in the Bahcelievler district is large, modern, all tests, medicines can be bought on the spot, the staff is polite. I can’t say the result of infertility treatment yet, since I have only gone halfway through IVF, but I hope for a successful result.

Was offered an appointment and was told it would be online and an interpreter would be provided but there was no interpreter. I was told to pay a deposit but then after the appointment which was suppose to last an hour but lasted 20 minutes (and was started late) was concluded the hospital refused to refund me the deposit when I decided not to proceed! Luckily my credit card was able to get the money back for me.
Nothing
Lack of professionalism, lack of empathy and understanding. Changing the times of my appointment and not having an interpreter available despite promising to have an interpreter.

The doctor was very good, answered all the questions, explained everything. The only thing I didn’t like was the wait. At the reception no one spoke English or Russian, I had to wait for an interpreter from another part of the clinic. We were hungry and nervous while waiting, but overall the reception and consultation went well.

FAQ about Embryo Donation in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Is embryo donation legal in Turkey?

Embryo donation is legal in Turkey under assisted reproduction laws updated in 2010. The Ministry of Health regulates the process exclusively for married heterosexual couples. Patients must provide proof of marriage and residency while using embryos from anonymous donors or frozen stocks.

  • Legal eligibility: Only married heterosexual couples qualify for embryo donation.
  • Donor anonymity: All donations are strictly anonymous as required by law.
  • Payment ban: Monetary compensation to donors is prohibited under Turkish regulations.
  • Clinic licensing: Procedures must occur in certified IVF hospitals like Emsey Hospital.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many sources claim a total ban, our data confirms active legal programs. Clinics like Emsey Hospital maintain WHO and UNICEF Baby-Friendly certifications. This highlights a high standard for reproductive care. Patients should prioritize JCI-accredited facilities to navigate the 3-month paperwork window safely.

Patient Consensus: Patients report that the anonymous donor system works effectively. They often emphasize the necessity of completing extensive genetic screenings before starting the 3-month bureaucratic process.

Does the Turkish ban on embryo donation apply to foreign patients?

The Turkish ban on embryo donation applies strictly to all clinics operating within Turkey, regardless of a patient's nationality. Turkish law requires couples to use their own genetic material for in vitro fertilization (IVF) and mandates a valid marriage certificate for all fertility treatments.

  • Legal restriction: Third-party reproduction including egg, sperm, and embryo donation is prohibited.
  • Marriage requirement: Foreign couples must present a marriage certificate to access any IVF services.
  • Genetic material: Treatment is legally limited to the intended parents' own biological cells.
  • Counseling ban: Doctors are restricted from directing patients to donation programs in other countries.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While regulations are strict, Turkey remains a top destination for standard IVF due to high success rates. Clinics like Emsey Hospital maintain international ISO and JCI accreditations. If you require donor material, many patients successfully transition their care to nearby Northern Cyprus or Greece where donation laws are more liberal.

Patient Consensus: Patients often find conflicting information online regarding donor eligibility for foreigners. Experienced travelers recommend obtaining written confirmation from Turkish clinics regarding specific legal requirements before booking any travel arrangements.

Can single women or same-sex couples access embryo donation in Turkey?

Single women and same-sex couples cannot legally access embryo donation in Turkey. Turkish law restricts all assisted reproductive technologies (ART) to married heterosexual couples. Legislation strictly prohibits third-party involvement, including donor eggs, sperm, or embryos, requiring couples to use only their own genetic material.

  • Legal marital status: Clinics require a valid marriage certificate from heterosexual couples before starting treatment.
  • Genetic material rule: Patients must use their own gametes; donor involvement is a criminal offense.
  • Surrogacy prohibition: Surrogacy is strictly banned for all individuals regardless of their sexual orientation.
  • Regional alternatives: Nearby destinations like North Cyprus and Greece permit donation for single patients.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While Turkey has world-class facilities like Emsey Hospital, the legal restrictions are absolute for non-traditional families. Doctors like Prof. Dr. Oya Gökmen at Medistate specialize in complex IVF, but they must operate within these strict national frameworks. Patients often choose Turkey for initial diagnostics or egg freezing before transferring materials to more liberal jurisdictions like Spain.

Patient Consensus: Many patients report that major clinics strictly vet documentation and will turn away unmarried individuals. They recommend consulting international fertility lawyers to navigate the boundary between Turkish medical care and cross-border embryo transfers.

What are the reported success rates for embryo-donation programs compared to couples’ own-egg IVF?

Embryo donation programs report success rates between 60% and 80% per transfer, significantly outperforming own-egg IVF, which typically yields 20% to 40%. This gap widens with maternal age, as donated embryos come from young, healthy donors, effectively bypassing age-related egg quality decline and chromosomal abnormalities.

  • Success comparison: Embryo donation offers 2 to 3 times higher success than own-egg cycles.
  • Age factor: Recipient age has minimal impact, maintaining high rates for women over 40.
  • Cumulative outcomes: Success rates can reach 75% to 95% after three donation cycles.
  • Quality control: Programs use high-quality embryos, often resulting in pregnancy on the first transfer.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Expert surgeons like Dr. Oya Gökmen at Medistate Hospital Istanbul emphasize that embryo donation succeeds where own-egg IVF fails because it removes the ovarian reserve variable. While own-egg IVF costs Price on request to Price on request , the higher $5,500 investment for donation often proves more cost-effective by reducing the total number of cycles needed to achieve a live birth.

Patient Consensus: Many patients transition to embryo donation in Turkey after multiple failed own-egg attempts. They frequently report achieving successful pregnancies on their very first transfer due to the superior quality of donated embryos.

Where do patients who need embryo donation usually travel from Turkey?

Turkish patients seeking embryo donation typically travel to North Cyprus, Greece, Spain, and the Czech Republic. Since embryo donation is illegal in Turkey under strictly enforced fertility regulations, couples must cross borders to access anonymous donor programs and advanced reproductive technologies in more liberal jurisdictions.

  • North Cyprus: Closest destination offering anonymous donors and treatment for patients up to age 58.
  • Greece: Provides a clear legal framework with high medical standards for donor-recipient programs.
  • Spain: Features Europe's largest donor pool and advanced clinical techniques for complex cases.
  • Czech Republic: Popular for competitive pricing and high-quality care at specialized clinics in Prague.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While patients must leave Turkey for the donation itself, top Istanbul specialists like Prof. Dr. Oya Gökmen often provide the initial consultations. Working with a Turkey-based expert for pre-travel screenings can streamline the process significantly. This local oversight ensures you only travel when your body is perfectly prepared for the transfer.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize the importance of getting donor screening reports in writing before travel. They often suggest arranging local prenatal care at home immediately after returning from the transfer abroad.

Can Turkish clinics assist with embryo-donation programs abroad?

Turkish clinics cannot assist with embryo-donation programs. Strict national laws prohibit the use of donor eggs, sperm, or embryos in any fertility treatment. Procedures are reserved exclusively for married heterosexual couples using their own genetic material within licensed facilities like Emsey Hospital.

  • Legal restriction: Using third-party genetic material is strictly illegal under Turkish reproductive law.
  • Eligibility criteria: IVF is legally restricted to married heterosexual couples using their own gametes.
  • Surrogacy status: All forms of surrogacy and embryo donation are completely prohibited in Turkey.
  • Regional alternatives: Patients frequently choose Northern Cyprus, Greece, or Spain for legal donor programs.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While Turkish law is restrictive, the region remains a hub for standard IVF. Prof. Dr. Oya Gökmen at Medistate Hospital has over 45 years of experience in reproductive medicine. For donation, clinics in nearby Northern Cyprus often share medical protocols with Turkish specialists, providing a familiar care standard under different legal frameworks.

Patient Consensus: Patients report that while Turkish medical care is high-quality, logistical coordination for donor material from abroad is practically non-existent due to legal risks. Most suggest looking directly at Greek or Spanish clinics for transparent donor programs.

Is adoption a legal alternative to embryo donation in Turkey?

Legal child adoption is the primary lawful alternative to forming a family in Turkey because embryo donation is strictly prohibited. Turkish law restricts assisted reproduction to married heterosexual couples using their own genetic material, making third-party involvement, including sperm or egg donation, illegal under the 1987 Assisted Reproductive Technologies Regulation.

  • Legal authority: The Ministry of Family and Social Services administers all domestic and international adoptions.
  • Eligibility criteria: Applicants must be over 30 years old or married for at least 5 years.
  • Age requirements: A minimum 18-year age difference is required between the adopter and the child.
  • Mandatory care: Prospective parents must provide child care for 1 year before final court approval.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While embryo donation is banned, Turkey remains a global hub for standard IVF for married couples. Clinics like Emsey Hospital hold Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) certifications, showing a strong national infrastructure for traditional fertility care despite the strict legal prohibitions on third-party genetic material.

Patient Consensus: Many families find the 1-to-3-year wait for domestic adoption challenging and often seek emotional support through community groups during the 6-month home study process. Because of these strict local bans, some patients choose to travel to nearby Cyprus to access donor services prohibited in Turkey.
