Ali Zirch is the best and he has a good team
Operation DBS. Ali Zirch is the best and he has a good team . Because setting up the equipment is as important process for patients as the operation to install it. Honestly, I can't imagine that such an operation can be done in Ukraine.... Of course, there are young and promising doctors. But there is no equipment.

"But I want to express my deepest and heartfelt thanks to our assistant from the first day, a month before we arrived at Mahmoud Kathab hospital, this young man is gifted with a huge heart, I think he was the person who made me choose MEDIPOL PARMERA etc
I would like to express our satisfaction with the DBS operation, the stay in the hospital, which I dare to say at the world level. Dr. Ali Zirh is an absolute professional, precise, clear, concrete and above all very human. But I want to express my deepest and heartfelt thanks to our assistant from the first day, a month before we arrived at Mahmoud Kathab hospital, this young man is gifted with a huge heart, I think he was the person who made me choose MEDIPOL PARMERA etc. Ali Zarh. Last but not least, I am fascinated by the neurologist Dr. Basak and her team, who for 21 days took care of regulating the exact therapy and impulses of my husband. Our entire stay was reduced to the last detail for our benefit, to feel at home. We have not regretted it for a moment, that we chose MEDIPOL MEGA GROUP, thank you Mahmoud, you were born to help people like us!!! Please to reword Mahmoud Kathab ,he deserved a lot!!!

Expert Overview about Parkinson's disease Treatment in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What are the primary treatment options available in Turkey?

Primary Parkinson's treatments in Turkey include deep brain stimulation surgery, magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound, and sophisticated medication protocols. JCI-accredited centers in Istanbul utilize microelectrode recording and Medtronic neurostimulators. Expert neurosurgeons often achieve 90% success rates in tremor reduction and motor symptom management.

  • Deep brain stimulation: Surgical implants regulate brain signals to reduce tremors and stiffness.
  • Focused ultrasound (MRgFUS): Non-surgical, incision-free technology uses ultrasound waves to treat severe tremors.
  • Neurological diagnostics: Advanced staging using 3D CT scans, brain MRI, and EEG studies.
  • Robot-assisted systems: Integration of da Vinci technology for high-precision electrode placement during surgery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Medipol University PARMER stands out globally because Dr. Ali Zirh has performed over 1,600 successful DBS procedures. Our data shows a unique trend where this clinic gathered 329 DBS patients in one location, setting a Guinness World Record. While many general hospitals offer neurology, seeking a private subspecialty facility like PARMER ensures access to single-cell level microelectrode recording, which is critical for precise lead placement.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that the level of personal support is exceptional, with translators often staying by their side even in the operating room. Many emphasize that the coordination of therapy and device impulses post-surgery is just as important as the operation itself.

Who are the top specialists for Parkinson's in Turkey?

Top Parkinson's specialists in Turkey include Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Zirh, who has performed over 1,900 movement disorder surgeries. Prof. Dr. Yasar Kutukcu at Anadolu Medical Center and Prof. Dr. Sultan Tarlaci at NP Istanbul Brain Hospital are also leading experts in neuromodulation and deep brain stimulation.

  • Dr. Ali Zirh: Performs microelectrode recording at Medipol PARMER with 1,400+ successful DBS procedures.
  • Prof. Yasar Kutukcu: Specializes in movement disorders and neurophysiology at Johns Hopkins-affiliated Anadolu Medical Center.
  • Prof. Sultan Tarlaci: Offers 25+ years of experience in Parkinson's and dementia at NP Istanbul.
  • Dr. Zafer Orkun Toktas: Highly experienced neurosurgeon at Memorial Atasehir with over 4,000 total surgeries.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Patients often choose Medipol PARMER because it is a dedicated subspecialty center for movement disorders. While general hospitals offer DBS, PARMER's focus on single-cell microelectrode recording provides high precision. Dr. Ali Zirh even holds a Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of DBS patients.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that the post-operative programming of the brain stimulator is just as vital as the surgery. Many recommend staying in Istanbul for several weeks to ensure a specialist neurologist fine-tunes the device settings correctly.

Which are the best hospitals for Parkinson's treatment?

The best hospitals for Parkinson's treatment include JCI-accredited centers in Turkey like Medipol University PARMER and NP Istanbul Brain Hospital. These facilities specialize in deep brain stimulation (DBS) and MR-guided focused ultrasound. Top neurosurgeons here have performed over 1,400 successful life-changing procedures.

  • Specialized centers: Medipol PARMER is a dedicated movement disorders hub opened in 2018.
  • Surgical expertise: Surgeons like Dr. Ali Zirh have performed over 2,000 movement disorder surgeries.
  • Advanced technology: Clinics utilize microelectrode recording at a single-cell level for precise electrode placement.
  • Non-invasive options: MR-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) treats tremors without making any surgical incisions.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many hospitals offer neurology, for Parkinson's, the volume of DBS procedures is the strongest quality signal. Medipol University PARMER stands out because its lead surgeon, Dr. Ali Zirh, holds a Guinness World Record for gathering 329 DBS patients in one place. Our data shows their packages often include 21-day hotel stays, which is much longer than the 5-10 days offered by other Istanbul clinics, ensuring better post-op programming.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that the expertise of the neurosurgeon and the quality of the programming team are just as important as the surgery itself. Many note that having a dedicated interpreter present even in the operating room provides immense emotional support during the procedure.

What is the success rate for Parkinson's surgery in Turkey?

Parkinson's surgery in Turkey, specifically Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), maintains success rates between 85% and 99.9%. Specialized centers report significant motor symptom recovery. Patients often see a 60% reduction in tremors and rigidity. Many successfully decrease daily medication intake by up to 80%.

  • Success rates: Leading Turkish neurosurgery departments report outcomes between 91% and 99.9%.
  • Motor improvement: Clinical data shows 50% to 60% better control over movement slowness.
  • Medication impact: Procedures typically reduce drug-induced involuntary movements by 60% to 80%.
  • Long-term survival: International standards in Turkey show a 98.4% 1-year post-operative survival rate.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Success in Turkey is driven by extreme surgeon specialization. Dr. Ali Zirh at Medipol has performed over 1,600 DBS procedures. Dr. Zafer Orkun Toktas at Memorial Ataşehir has completed over 4,000 surgeries. This high volume directly correlates with the 99% success rates reported in the data.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that the 21-day follow-up period is vital for programming the brain pacemaker correctly. They note that having a dedicated neurologist and translator during this adjustment phase ensures much better long-term results.

Is physical therapy included in the treatment plans?

Physical therapy is typically not included in standard Parkinson’s surgery packages in Turkey. Treatment plans focus on diagnostic workups and surgical procedures like Deep Brain Stimulation. Patients usually arrange rehabilitation separately. However, specialized clinics provide post-operative guidance and medication adjustments to complement physical recovery.

  • Service inclusion: Packages usually cover surgery, anesthesia, diagnostics, and VIP airport transfers.
  • Post-operative care: Neurologists at Medipol PARMER manage therapy and brain pacemaker impulses.
  • Rehabilitation access: Private sessions in Istanbul are available for approximately $20 to $50.
  • Clinical certifications: Major centers like NP Istanbul Brain Hospital hold JCI and ISO accreditations.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While surgical packages like those from Dr. Ali Zirh focus on the $28,000 procedure, the real value lies in the 21-day follow-up period. Data shows top-tier teams include specialized neurologists who stay in touch after discharge. This ensures medication and stimulation settings are optimized before you start formal physical therapy back home.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that while formal physical therapy isn't bundled, surgeons provide essential home exercises. Many emphasize that having a personal interpreter and constant support during the hospital stay makes organizing extra care much easier.
