Vertebral plastic in Mexico: Pros and Cons

Vertebral plastic (vertebroplasty) in Mexico can offer significant cost savings, but it's crucial to weigh the potential benefits against the risks.

Pros Cons
Lower costs. Vertebral plastic in Mexico typically costs $4,000–$7,000 versus $10,000–$15,000 in the US, offering savings of up to 60%. Safety concerns. Potential risks include infection (1–3%) and cement leakage (up to 5%). These rates are similar to those reported in the US and can be minimized by choosing accredited clinics.
Qualified surgeons. Many specialists are certified by the Mexican Council of Orthopedic Surgery, with training in US or European spine centers and over 10 years of experience. Follow-up care. Coordinating post-procedure imaging and rehabilitation from abroad can be complex, but some clinics offer telemedicine support for international patients.
Modern facilities. Clinics in hubs like Tijuana and Guadalajara use advanced imaging (CT, fluoroscopy) and FDA-approved bone cement. Many are accredited by JCI or ISO and regulated by local health ministries. Different regulatory standards. COFEPRIS standards differ from the FDA. However, top clinics follow international guidelines and use FDA-approved materials, reducing regulatory risk.
Rapid scheduling. Procedures can often be scheduled within days, reducing wait times compared to the US, where delays are common. Travel-related risks. Long-distance travel after spinal procedures may increase discomfort or risk, but clinics can provide tailored recovery plans and local accommodations.
Personal coordinator support. Bookimed’s medical coordinator helps compare clinics, request personalized quotes, and manage treatment logistics at no additional cost.

It's crucial to thoroughly research clinics and verify surgeon credentials before making a decision. When performed by qualified specialists in accredited facilities, vertebral plastic in Mexico can offer safe, effective, and affordable care for spinal fractures.

I was very pleased with her methods and knowledge and I plan to see her again if i need further treatment
Dr. Isabella Bernaschina was very interested in truly helping me. She was very efficient and she has considerable experience in the use of stem cells for many different conditions. She believes in what she is doing and has used stem cells herself in the past. She also lives a very healthy lifestyle and encourages a healthy lifestyle to gain the most benefit from treatment. She simply practices what she preaches and she has a long history using stem cells and other modalities to benefit the health of her patients. I was very pleased with her methods and knowledge and I plan to see her again if i need further treatment. I could not ask for more dedicated attention. She followed up after treatment to see how i was feeling and seemed to sincerely care about how I felt after treatment.
About Bookimed service
Bookimed was very easy to work with and checked with me numerous times to be sure i was happy with the treatment scheduled and the details of travel to the clinic from the US. They checked on me more than once and right before my travel to Mexico for treatment. They checked on my travel and abominations and seemed to be sincerely interested if I was satisfied with all aspects of the travel and treatment.

The surgeon and all the staff at the clinic have been incredibly supportive
My biggest concern was not fully understanding the extent of the damage. Fortunately, the results of the imaging tests were very detailed and cleared everything up. The surgeon and all the staff at the clinic have been incredibly supportive. The only issue is that the treatments required to preserve the joint before proceeding with replacement are very expensive. I am still in the early stages of recovery and the pain is much the same, which is to be expected at this stage. It is a process. I am confident about the road ahead.
