The Chaim Sheba Medical Center is one of the leading public hospitals in Israel that operates Safra children's hospital, a rehabilitation hospital, where geriatric and mental issues are handled, too. Every year more than a million patients attend this hospital named in honor of the military doctor Chaim Sheba.

The Chaim Sheba Medical Center is one of the leading public hospitals in Israel which was established in 1948 as a hospital to treat casualties of Israel's War of Independence. In 1950s, it became a civilian hospital. 66 years later, it combines 3 legally not interrelated establishments that enable quality service for everyone.

These establishments are:

  • A standard clinical hospital
  • Safra children's hospital
  • A rehabilitation hospital, where geriatric and mental issues are handled, too.

Every year more than a million patients attend this hospital named in honor of the military doctor Chaim Sheba, and approximately 100, 000 patients are hospitalized for further treatment.

It is also the main clinical trial venue for human health scientific studies. Scientific research at Sheba includes studies of genetic, oncological and autoimmune disorders.

Specialists of the center pay a lot of attention to neurodegenerative diseases, and separate specialized institutes were created for some disciplines.

The Center operates:

  • Laboratory Division with sophisticated equipment
  • Joseph Buchman Gynecology and Maternity Center (Ob/Gyn) with specialized units, including IVF, Infertility, Urogynecology, and Invasive and Noninvasive Ultrasound
  • Burn unit.

Multiple facilities, experience and professionals are the key to hospital’s popularity among citizens of Israel who seek public medical services and foreign patients who come to Tel Aviv on purpose to get quality medical assistance.

Research and development:

In addition to many patients who recovered the hospital is renowned for clinical physicians who conduct research and implement new approaches. This is the place where several significant records were set.

Sheba is proud of its many “firsts” in Israel:

  • First in open-heart surgery
  • First test tube baby
  • First artificial heart
  • First Alzheimer's Center
  • First to correct a child's congenital heart defect without surgery
  • First Pediatric Hospice.

Recognition in the world:

Bone marrow transplant center is renowned for excellence both in Israel and all over Europe.
In addition to divisions dealing with diagnostics and treatment of children, the Chaim Sheba Medical Center operates a division whose employees take care of comprehensive rehabilitation program for patients recovering after complex surgeries. Several specialized divisions, e.g. orthopedic or geriatric, employ personnel who look after patients facilitating their recovery.

The Chaim Sheba Medical Center offers women who recover after giving birth individual compassionate and responsible state-of-the-art care (which helps to avoid postnatal depression) and specialists observe changes in mental state of patients after manipulations administered and performed on them.

The Sheba Medical Center is also a national leader in continuing medical education training. The staff of the Center which is about 6 000 people attend training courses on a regular basis and receive information about the latest trends and needs of the patients. Special “patient-robots” were created in order to help staff to improve their qualifications.
