All the staff members made me feel very comfortable
All the staff members made me feel very comfortable. As I traveled on my own, I felt well cared for and looked after in the clinic, and the included hotel was basic but nice. The procedure went well. I was initially a bit unsure about the schedule for my follow-up appointments, but the team checked on me daily through WhatsApp, which was reassuring. My surgeon explained why the transconjunctival technique, leaving no visible scar, was the right choice for me, and the surgery was performed under local anesthesia with sedation. So far, my recovery is going about as expected. One piece of advice: bring a V-pillow. The clinic only mentioned I'd need to sleep upright on the day, and having one made my hotel stay much more comfortable.
All staff members made me feel very comfortable. I traveled on my own and felt well cared for and looked after in the clinic. The included hotel was basic but nice. The procedure went well with a fast recovery.
I was bit unsure of the days I would be going back to the clinic for a check up and for further treatment but I was checked on through WhatsApp daily and felt reassured knowing that I could contact them at any time if I felt unwell.

The entire process has been so smooth
What really put me at ease was the conversation with my surgeon. She took the time to show me before and after photos, explained what result to realistically expect from the wedge method on the labia minora and made me feel comfortable discussing my concerns. The entire process has been so smooth. I'm feeling better than expected right now. The clinic support has been great—they've stayed in touch, gave me a clear aftercare guide, and were always easy to reach. Plus, there were no additional expenses at all. My advice is simple: do your research, and if you have any questions, ask the coordinator. They are only too happy to help.
Excellent communication with the coordinator. Everything was booked for me - the procedure, hotel & ALL the transfers. I didn't have to worry about anything once I was in Turkey.
Nothing negative to report.

FAQ about Surgery in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

How can I avoid medical scams or 'botched' procedures?

Avoiding botched results in Turkey requires verifying Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation and surgeon credentials like the Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). Patients must prioritize university-affiliated hospitals and avoid high-pressure sales tactics or prices significantly below the _placeholder_min_ to _placeholder_max_ market average.

  • Credential verification: Seek surgeons with FACS or European Board (FEBS) certifications for verified international expertise.
  • Hospital accreditation: Choose facilities with JCI or ISO standards, such as Memorial Şişli or Anadolu.
  • Affiliation check: Prioritize university hospitals like Lokman Hekim for higher clinical oversight and success rates.
  • Red flag detection: Avoid clinics that ghost post-op inquiries or use only stock before-and-after photos.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows a clear quality gap between low-cost aesthetic suites and multidisciplinary centers like Anadolu Medical Center, which is affiliated with Johns Hopkins. While small clinics may offer lower prices, top-tier Turkish hospitals handle 250,000+ patients annually and maintain 90% plus success rates for complex surgeries. Checking if a hospital has its own helipad or multiple intensive care units is a reliable proxy for legitimate medical infrastructure.

Patient Consensus: Many survivors of botched procedures warn that packages under $3,000 often skip vital recovery nights. Patients emphasize that having a friendly, available coordinator who feels like family makes a procedure successful and provides necessary emotional security.

Is it safe to have surgery in Turkey?

Surgery in Turkey is safe when performed by board-certified specialists in Joint Commission International (JCI) accredited hospitals. The Turkish Ministry of Health strictly regulates facilities, ensuring high clinical standards. Many surgeons maintain dual certifications from the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and European boards, performing thousands of successful procedures annually.

  • Regulatory oversight: The Ministry of Health conducts rigorous, mandatory inspections for international patient licenses.
  • Accreditation standards: Turkey hosts numerous JCI-accredited facilities, like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental and Anadolu Medical Center.
  • Surgeon expertise: Top specialists often hold Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) credentials.
  • Advanced technology: Clinics utilize da Vinci robotic systems and EOS imaging for high-precision surgical outcomes.

Bookimed Expert Insight: High-volume university hospitals like Lokman Hekim Ankara report success rates as high as 99.9% for complex neurosurgery. This data suggests that choosing academic-affiliated centers often provides an extra layer of safety. These institutions combine active research with 24/7 intensive care support not always available in smaller boutique clinics.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that having a coordinator available at all hours makes the experience feel like family. Most recommend verifying sterilization standards and prioritizing hospitals with English-speaking staff for clear post-operative communication.

What are the most popular procedures performed in Turkey?

Turkey is a premier global destination for hair restoration, rhinoplasty, and dental aesthetics, performing over 1,000,000 procedures annually. High-volume centers like Anadolu Medical Center and Memorial Şişli Hospital utilize JCI-accredited standards, robotic-assisted surgery, and advanced techniques like FUE and Vaser liposuction for international patients.

  • Hair restoration: World leader with 500,000+ annual procedures using FUE and DHI techniques.
  • Facial plastic surgery: Rhinoplasty leads surgical demand, followed by blepharoplasty and facial rejuvenation treatments.
  • Body contouring: High volume for Vaser liposuction, tummy tucks, and post-weight loss skin removal.
  • Weight loss surgery: Extensive expertise in laparoscopic gastric sleeve and bypass at specialized bariatric centers.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While hair and nose surgeries dominate, Turkey has emerged as a high-success hub for complex oncology and transplants. Memorial Şişli Hospital maintains a 99% success rate for kidney transplants. Patients often combine diagnostic check-ups with aesthetic treatments given the sophisticated infrastructure at multidisciplinary JCI-accredited hospitals.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the family-like care and accessibility of professors. Many recommend researching surgeons with at least 1,000 documented cases to ensure natural-looking results and safety.

What are the most common surgeries performed in Turkey?

Turkey is a global leader for medical tourism, specializing in high-volume aesthetic and life-saving procedures. Hair transplantation, rhinoplasty, and liposuction are the most frequent operations, alongside bariatric surgery and advanced oncology treatments. Many facilities hold JCI accreditation and utilize robotic-assisted or minimally invasive techniques.

  • Aesthetic dominance: Hair transplants lead with an estimated 500,000 annual patients in Turkey.
  • Facial surgery: Surgeons like Dr. Yavuz Selim Yildirim perform roughly 56,700 rhinoplasty procedures annually.
  • Weight loss: Bariatric surgeries including gastric sleeve and bypass show high success rates.
  • Specialized care: Clinics like Memorial Sisli maintain a 90% success rate for organ transplants.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While aesthetics grab headlines, Turkey’s true clinical strength lies in complex surgical volume. Memorial Atasehir Hospital reports a 99.5% liver transplant success rate. This high frequency across 61+ departments per hospital creates a high-experience environment. Surgeons often perform 50+ specialized cases weekly, far exceeding average Western procedural volumes.

Patient Consensus: Many patients praise the family-like care and accessibility of Turkish medical staff. However, travelers warn against rushed multi-procedure deals and recommend staying 10+ days for safe recovery.

How long should I stay in Turkey after my procedure?

Most patients should stay in Turkey for 7 to 14 days after surgery to ensure safe air travel and proper healing. This timeframe allows surgeons to monitor for complications, remove sutures or splints, and conduct essential follow-up examinations before clearing you for departure.

  • Hair transplant stay: Plan 3 to 7 days for graft security and professional first washes.
  • Rhinoplasty recovery: Stay at least 7 to 10 days for splint and cast removal.
  • General surgery: Allow 7 to 14 days for procedures like hernia repair or cholecystectomy.
  • Weight loss surgery: Budget 10 to 14 days for dietary monitoring and initial healing.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Look for packages that bundle extended hotel stays rather than just hospital nights. For instance, Cardiac Glomus Tumor packages at Lokman Hekim University include 9 hospital days plus 7 hotel days. This 16-day total stay significantly exceeds the standard 7-day window, providing a much higher safety buffer for complex recoveries.

Patient Consensus: Many patients recommend adding a 2-day buffer to your itinerary. They highlight that leaving too early, especially after VASER lipo, can lead to uncomfortable swelling and bruising during the flight home.

What do `all-inclusive` surgery packages in Turkey usually include?

All-inclusive surgery packages in Turkey are comprehensive medical tourism bundles that streamline the surgical process. These plans typically integrate the procedure cost, pre-operative testing, Joint Commission International (JCI) accredited hospital stays, 4 or 5-star hotel accommodations, and private VIP transportation between locations.

  • Medical essentials: Includes surgeon fees, anesthesia, operating room costs, and all necessary surgical materials.
  • Diagnostic tests: Covers initial consultations, blood work, EKG, and physical evaluations before the surgery.
  • Post-operative care: Bundles recovery medications, specialized compression garments, and initial follow-up appointments with the surgeon.
  • Logistics support: Features private airport-to-hotel transfers and a dedicated multilingual coordinator for 24/7 assistance.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Look for packages offering extended hospital stays rather than just hotel nights. While luxury hotels are standard, clinics like Memorial Sisli or Lokman Hekim often include 1–2 nights of clinical monitoring. Quality packages usually differentiate themselves by including 24-hour nursing services or specialized nutritionist-prepared meals during the recovery phase.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the high-end hospitality that makes surgery feel like a vacation. Many recommend confirming whether post-discharge support, such as 24/7 WhatsApp access to doctors, is officially included.

What is typically included in a surgery `package`?

A surgery package in Turkey is a bundled service offering clinical care and travel logistics for a single fixed price. These typically include the surgical procedure, anesthesia, preoperative tests, medications, hospital stays, 4 or 5-star hotel accommodations, and private VIP airport-to-clinic transfers.

  • Medical services: Includes surgeon fees, general anesthesia, and standard preoperative blood biochemistry tests.
  • Hospital stay: Most packages cover 1–2 nights of inpatient care with 24-hour nursing.
  • Logistics: Features VIP transfers between the airport, hotel, and clinic in premium vehicles.
  • Post-operative care: Covers initial follow-up exams, required medical dressings, and essential recovery medications.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from top-tier clinics like Lokman Hekim University Ankara Hospital shows that premium packages differentiate themselves through recovery support. While basic bundles provide standard care, high-end options often include specialized perks like meals prepared by a nutritionist and extended 7-day hotel stays to ensure patient stability before flying.

Patient Consensus: Patients recommend requesting an itemized list via email to confirm if transfers are private or shared. Many suggest budgeting 20% extra for potential upgrades to higher-quality hotels or extended recovery stays.
