How Much Does Droopy eyelid surgery Cost in Thailand?

Droopy eyelid surgery in Thailand typically costs from $1,400 / ฿47,600 to $2,900 / ฿98,600. The final price depends on whether muscle repair or simple skin removal is needed. In the US, similar procedures cost around $5,300 / ฿180,200 on average. Thailand offers savings of around 60%. Most clinic fees cover the surgeon, local anesthesia, medications, and follow-up care.

  • Muscle repair (ptosis): Often adds 30-40% to basic blepharoplasty costs.
  • Anesthesia type: General anesthesia or IV sedation increases the total facility fee.
  • Facility tier: JCI-accredited hospitals in Bangkok generally charge higher base prices.
  • Combined procedures: Treating upper and lower lids simultaneously typically offers package savings.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing an oculoplastic specialist provides the best value for complex muscle corrections. For instance, Dr. Warangkana Chaivong at Wansiri Hospital holds specific ophthalmology and Korean blepharoplasty certifications. While boutique clinics like ID Clinic Bangkok offer competitive rates, JCI-accredited facilities like Asia Cosmetic Hospital ensure zero complication rates. This balance of expertise and safety is a hallmark of Thai medical hubs.

The anesthesiologist never spoke to me personally although I had concerns about general anesthesia. I was feeling sick and sleepy after surgery, so I was not able to ask for cold packs to minimize swelling and bruising till hours later. I think the nursing staff should have initiated it, or at least offered the cold packs. I had significant swelling and bruising for several days. I looked frightening the first week, so much so that I couldn't use 'face recognition' app. I still don't like 'the new look' of my face. Feel like it has been pulled too tight. And the extra folds of the eyelids which was the reason I wanted corrective surgery, are still present and not improved.
About Bookimed service
Mixed experience. Overall good service, but surgical outcome has been less favorable than I was hoping for (2 months later).

I enjoyed my experience, due to staff being friendly and understanding . I felt very comfortable and understood. I would definitely recommend this clinic to anyone. I got lipo and a BBL done, so as you can imagine that was quite scary. But the medical team are very calm and reassuring.

My only issue was the availability of staff after my surgery. I was placed in a room and was only checked on once during my 3 hours recovery. I had to call a nurse to ask if I could discharged.I was fortunate that my husband was with me.

FAQ about Droopy eyelid surgery in Thailand

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What is the difference between simple eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) and droopy eyelid (ptosis) surgery?

Blepharoplasty removes excess skin and fat to rejuvenate the eye, while ptosis surgery repairs the levator muscle to lift a drooping eyelid margin. While both involve upper lid incisions, ptosis correction is a functional procedure targeting muscle weakness that simple skin removal cannot fix.

  • Anatomical focus: Blepharoplasty targets skin and fat; ptosis surgery tightens the internal levator lifting muscle.
  • Surgical goal: Eyelid lifts address aesthetic sagging, whereas ptosis repair restores clear vision and symmetry.
  • Technique depth: Surgeons shorten or reattach weakened muscles, which is more complex than basic skin excision.
  • Combined approach: Many patients require both procedures to address functional muscle failure and cosmetic skin excess.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from Bangkok clinics shows a rising trend in combined procedures. Specialists like Dr. Warangkana Chaivong at Wansiri Hospital often perform ptosis correction alongside epicanthoplasty. This combination ensures that the functional muscle lift matches the aesthetic eye shape for a more natural look.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasize that a simple blepharoplasty will not fix a heavy lid caused by muscle weakness. Many recommend consulting an oculoplastic surgeon to ensure the correct cause of the droop is targeted before surgery.

Why is Thailand such a popular destination for ptosis and eyelid correction?

Thailand is a premier destination for ptosis correction due to specialized oculoplastic expertise and significant savings of 60% compared to US costs. Surgeons in Bangkok often hold international certifications and utilize advanced techniques for both functional repair and aesthetic eyelid enhancements.

  • Cost efficiency: Procedures typically cost $1,400 to $2,900, offering substantial financial advantages.
  • Specialized expertise: Surgeons like Dr. Warangkana Chaivong at Wansiri Hospital are board-certified oculoplastic specialists.
  • High volume: Dr. Phatcharasak Kraisornphongsakul at ID Clinic has performed over 20,000 successful procedures.
  • Premium infrastructure: Facilities like Asia Cosmetic Hospital maintain JCI accreditation and ISO international standards.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many choose Thailand for lower prices, the real advantage is surgeon specialization. Some clinics in Bangkok serve over 10,000 patients annually. This massive volume allows surgeons to master sensitive functional repairs, such as levator muscle adjustment, which requires more precision than standard cosmetic skin removal.

Patient Consensus: Many patients find the quality excellent and appreciate that eyelid procedures are normalized within local beauty culture. They recommend prioritizing surgeon-specific experience for complex ptosis cases rather than just selecting a clinic based on price.

Is the surgery performed under general or local anesthesia?

Droopy eyelid surgery in Thailand is primarily performed under local anesthesia, frequently combined with IV sedation. This method is preferred as it allows surgeons to check eye symmetry in real-time. General anesthesia is available at some facilities but typically requires an additional fee.

  • Anesthesia options: Local anesthesia, IV sedation, or general anesthesia are available.
  • Symmetry verification: Local anesthesia allows patients to open eyes during the procedure.
  • Comfort levels: Initial lidocaine injections are often the most uncomfortable part.
  • Additional costs: General anesthesia often requires a separate anesthesiologist fee.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While local anesthesia is the clinical standard, Thailand's large-scale hospitals like Wansiri or Dr. Chen Surgery Hospital offer advanced general anesthesia setups. High-volume surgeons often recommend sedation over general anesthesia. This allows them to monitor muscle function while you remain relaxed and pain-free.

Patient Consensus: Patients report feeling pressure and tugging during the procedure, even when fully numbed. Most find the initial numbing injections to be the only significant discomfort of the surgery.

What is the recovery timeline and how long do I need to stay in Thailand?

Droopy eyelid surgery in Thailand requires a stay of 8 to 12 days to ensure safe travel. Functional recovery occurs within 24 to 72 hours, while swelling and bruising typically resolve over 7 to 14 days. Surgeons usually remove stitches between day 5 and 10.

  • Hospital stay: This procedure is typically an outpatient day case requiring no overnight hospitalization.
  • Initial recovery: Bruising and swelling peak around 48 to 72 hours before gradually subsiding.
  • Follow-up care: Plan for in-clinic stitch removal in Bangkok before your departure flight.
  • Final results: Eyelid tissues settle and reach final refinement within 2 to 6 months.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many general clinics offer blepharoplasty, Wansiri Hospital and Dr. Chen Surgery Hospital prioritize advanced environments like Clean Room standards and HEPA filtration. Choosing facilities with these specific technologies helps minimize infection risks in Thailand's humid climate during the critical first 7 days of healing.

Patient Consensus: Patients suggest staying 9 to 12 nights to manage travel fatigue and avoid the stress of finding a local doctor for stitch removal back home.
